Syria Reinstates Access to Bosra al-Sham Humanitarian Corridor

(MENAFN) On Monday, the Syrian government reinstated access to the Bosra al-Sham humanitarian corridor in Daraa’s southern province, enabling aid shipments to once again reach the neighboring Suwayda region after a temporary closure caused by intense clashes the previous day.

State-run media, citing a security official from the Interior Ministry, reported that the crossing was reopened after government forces secured the area and eliminated the danger posed by armed factions.

This corridor has recently served as a vital route for delivering humanitarian relief to Suwayda but was shut down Sunday due to fierce fighting between local security forces and armed factions in the province.

The Interior Ministry reported that these groups broke a recent ceasefire by attacking multiple security checkpoints in Tal Hadid, Rimat Hazem, and Walgha. The ministry further accused them of exacerbating sectarian tensions, looting aid shipments, conducting illegal detentions, and launching rocket and mortar strikes on villages, causing casualties among security personnel.

The ministry emphasized ongoing efforts by state authorities to restore stability and protect civilians since the truce’s inception.

Sunday’s violent escalation is the latest in a series of conflicts in Suwayda, a region plagued by persistent unrest and armed skirmishes.

A ceasefire has been in place in Suwayda since July 19, following a week of violent clashes between Druze and Bedouin groups that claimed 426 lives, according to the London-based Syrian Network for Human Rights.

Since the ousting of Bashar al-Assad on December 8, 2024, Syria’s transitional administration has been focused on rebuilding stability across the nation after nearly 25 years under authoritarian rule.
