Israel Approves New Aid Plan for Gaza
According to COGAT, the Israeli military body responsible for coordinating humanitarian assistance, “this aims to increase the volume of aid entering the Gaza Strip, while reducing reliance on aid collection by the UN and international organizations.”
The agency issued this declaration on Tuesday, noting that a select number of regional traders had been authorized to participate in the updated mechanism.
This decision emerges against the backdrop of a strict Israeli blockade that has pushed Gaza’s population of 2.4 million to the brink of famine.
Data from Gaza’s Health Ministry reveals that since October 2023, no fewer than 180 individuals — including 93 minors — have succumbed to starvation and complications related to malnutrition.
On Monday, Gaza’s Government Media Office disclosed that Israel had permitted the entry of just 674 humanitarian aid trucks since July 27.
This figure represents a mere 14% of the coastal enclave’s essential daily quota of 600 trucks.
The Health Ministry also reported that since May 27, at least 1,516 people seeking humanitarian aid have been killed, and 10,067 have sustained injuries due to Israeli gunfire near aid distribution zones operated by the US.
The new Israeli-devised aid protocol has come under widespread condemnation, with critics labeling it as both inadequate and a “death trap” for desperate civilians suffering from extreme hunger.
