Iran Issues Warning Against Military Vessels in Strait of Hormuz

(MENAFN) Authorities in Iran have issued a strong warning stating that any military vessels attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz would face what they described as a “firm and decisive response,” according to statements attributed to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy.

The IRGC said it maintains what it called “full and intelligent control” over the strategic waterway and emphasized that passage is permitted only for non-military ships operating under specific regulations. It also rejected reports of foreign military vessels currently transiting the area, warning that any such attempt would be met with a “strong confrontation.”

The statement comes at a sensitive diplomatic moment, as discussions involving Iran, the United States, and Pakistan continue in Islamabad. Maritime security and navigation rights in the Strait of Hormuz are among the key issues reportedly being addressed in the ongoing negotiations.

The escalation in rhetoric follows unconfirmed reports that several US Navy vessels may have passed through the strait recently, marking what would be the first such movement since the outbreak of hostilities earlier this year, according to reports.

A US official was cited as confirming that naval transit occurred without coordination with Iranian authorities, highlighting the growing sensitivity around maritime operations in one of the world’s most critical shipping routes.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a major geopolitical flashpoint due to its role in global energy transport, and recent developments underscore continued tensions despite parallel diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing regional conflict.
