Iran Launches Missile Strikes on US Military Facilities

(MENAFN) Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had carried out attacks against "enemy bases" in Kuwait and Bahrain following US drone operations targeting locations inside Iranian territory, according to a news agency on Saturday.

The IRGC's Aerospace Force reportedly launched ballistic missiles at the Ali al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait as well as strategic facilities belonging to the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. The information was released by the semi-official news agency.

According to the IRGC, the missile attacks were conducted in retaliation for American drone strikes that hit a telecommunications tower on Qeshm Island and another communications facility in Sirik.

The organization further cautioned that any additional hostile actions would trigger a stronger reaction extending beyond limited military operations. It stated that such measures could include the full shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz to oil and natural gas transport, a development that has unsettled international energy markets and heightened concerns over long-term economic repercussions.

Tensions throughout the region have intensified since the United States and Israel carried out air raids on Iran in late February. Those operations sparked a series of retaliatory actions that have contributed to broader regional instability.

In response, Iran later launched attacks against Israel and struck nations hosting US military installations. It also interfered with maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passageway for global energy exports.
