Iran Says US Strikes Undermined Ceasefire, Escalating Regional Tensions

(MENAFN) Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi has told the EU’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas that recent US military actions against Iran have effectively collapsed the existing ceasefire framework, according to reports citing Iran’s Foreign Ministry.

During a phone conversation, both officials reportedly discussed the latest developments in the region following a series of US strikes on Iranian territory. Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Araghchi strongly condemned the attacks, describing them as a violation of the UN Charter and international law.

He also argued that the strikes had weakened the ceasefire arrangement and warned that the United States would be held accountable for any further escalation or resulting consequences. In addition, he criticized what he described as a lack of response from UN member states, suggesting that continued inaction could worsen both regional and global instability.

Iranian media reported that explosions and air defense activity were observed across several areas in southern Iran, including Bandar Abbas, Minab, Jask, Qeshm, and Sirik. Meanwhile, US Central Command stated that American forces had conducted additional “self-defense” operations against multiple targets inside Iran.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps separately claimed that it had struck several US-linked military installations across the region, including bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan hosting American forces.

The situation has further intensified regional tensions following the recent exchange of strikes, alongside Iran’s reported decision to restrict maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
